Chiropractic (McTimoney) It
wasn’t until 1895 that Chiropractic as we know it today was born.
The American Daniel David Palmer, a ‘magnetic healer’ who had
been working
on the bio mechanics of spinal manipulation for some time,
carried out the first ever chiropractic adjustment (from ‘cheir’
meaning ‘hand’ and ‘praktikos’
meaning ‘done by’ – hence, ‘done by hand’). The McTimoney technique as we know it today has
been in existence since the late 1940s when its founder, John McTimoney,
developed his unique low force technique known today as the
toggle-torque-recoil. McTimoney
Chiropractic is a gentle technique using only the hands to make subtle
adjustments on the bones and joints of the body. This subtle but extremely fast and dexterous
method allows both the young and old to benefit. To ensure this technique
continued to be available John McTimoney opened the Oxfordshire School of
Chiropractic in the early seventies, which continues to train
chiropractors to this day under the name of the McTimoney College of
Chiropractic. Ian studied at this college for 5 years before
moving to Bristol. For appointments and fees please call Ian on
07908 649609 where he will be glad to answer any queries. You can also visit his website:
